Rainbow Writing Lesson Plan for Kindergarten

Rainbow Writing Lesson Plan for Kindergarten Kindergartners have a ton of new aptitudes to learn and practice. Writing the letter set and spelling words are two of the top assignments that require inventiveness and redundancy with the goal for understudies to ace. That is the place Rainbow Writing comes in. Its a fun, simple, and low-prep movement that should be possible in class or alloted as schoolwork. Heres how it fills in just as how it can support your emanant scholars. How Rainbow Writing Works In the first place, you have to pick around 10-15 high-recurrence sight words that are as of now natural to your students.Next, make a gift on basic penmanship paper. Compose every one of your picked words on the paper, single word per line. Compose the letters as flawlessly and enormous as could reasonably be expected. Make duplicates of this handout.Alternatively, for more established understudies who would already be able to compose and duplicate words: Write the rundown on your whiteboard and have the understudies record the words (one for each line) onto penmanship paper. To complete the Rainbow Words task, every understudy needs a bit of composing paper and 3-5 pastels (every one of an alternate shading). The understudy at that point composes over the first word in every one of the pastel hues. Its like following however includes a beautiful visual twist. For appraisal, search for your understudies to mirror the first slick penmanship as intently as could reasonably be expected. Varieties of Rainbow Writing There are a couple of varieties of this action. The one recorded above is the most essential variety that is extraordinary for presenting words. A subsequent variety (when understudies become acclimated to following over a word with pastels), is for understudies to take a pass on and move it to perceive what number of hues they have to follow over the recorded word. For instance, if a kid was to roll a five on the kick the bucket, that would imply that they would need to pick five unique hues to compose over each word recorded on their paper (ex. the word is and the youngster could utilize a blue, red, yellow, orange, and purple colored pencil to follow over the word). Another variety of the Rainbow Writing movement is for an understudy to pick three shading pastels and compose close to the recorded word multiple times with three diverse hued colored pencils (there is no following in this technique). This is somewhat increasingly mind boggling and is as a rule for understudies who have experience composing or are in a more established evaluation. How Might it Help Emergent Writers? Rainbow Writing helps rising authors since they are consistently shaping letters again and again. In addition to the fact that it helps them figure out how to compose it causes them figure out how to spell the word effectively. On the off chance that you have any understudies who are visual-spatial, sensation or material students then this action is ideal for them.

Wealth of the United States Essay examples - 1004 Words

Wealth of the United States nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; There is a problem in the United States that is growing and is causing issues in our country, but not everybody knows about it. The problem is the distribution of wealth in our society and the world as a whole, and how it is getting worse. Some people would say that it is an inequality due to the needs of the society, while others would say it is to the needs or individuals. This causes even more problems because of there being more than one supposed reason for the issue at hand. The problem is that the distribution of power is possibly starting to be lopsided, and for many reasons. There are two main views of why this is happening, the functionalist perspective and the conflict†¦show more content†¦This theory tells that poor people are poor because they do not work hard enough or even at all and that if they work harder, they will be rewarded with more resources or money. It also says that rich people have worked very hard to get where they are and it is not just because of their desire to get what they have, they had to work also. This contributes to society due to the fact that everyone is in a different class and this states that the classes are earned and not just given, so it tells everyone that almost all positions are given do to merit and other factors that are earned. Society as a whole is the basis of where people get, it is not because the people have needs and desires that need to be satisfied. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; On the other side of the spectrum, are the conflict theorists, who believe that the inequality of the resources trying to be attained is caused directly because of the wants and desires of the people who are trying to attain them. This theory is all based on a group of people in power making the other groups think that they are the best to be in power and create a false consciousness for the masses. The main group stays in power because they make all sorts of promises to the masses and deceive them at the same time. The group in power takes everything that they can from the people and tell them that this is due to another cause. Cultural Autobiography Essay Example

Cultural Autobiography Paper Start by describing the cultural aspects of your family background (attitudes, beliefs and values). My mom was adopted at the age of 9 but was given up at birth. So she grew up her first 9 years bouncing from foster home to group homes. And my dad is Algonquin Native American, but I did not meet him until I was 15 years old. With that being said, I dont really know my culture background and sure wasnt raised with one. I had a single mom that would not take welfare, instead she worked 2 or 3 Jobs at a time to support my sister and l. We did have great grandparents that adopted y mom, and without them my life would of been a lot more difficult growing up. They were both school teachers, and my mom was their only child. The most culture upbringing we had with them was probably church. My grandma was and to this day, a true Christian to the core. We grew up staying with my grandparents most of the time outside of school nights. I went to church every Sunday, and attended and helped with all holiday functions and anything else that we could. During the summer, we went to BBS for 3 weeks in Priest Lake, Idaho. This Is a hard assignment for me, due to the lack of family I have. It would be easier for me to Include significant moments, where lacking any cultural upbringing Influenced who I am today. Like I said before, my mom had me at 17, and she was a ward to the state of WA. Since she was not 18 when I was born, the social worker and the courts mandated that I was to be my moms sister and put into foster care. My mom was turning 18, only 3 months after I was born. My mom fought the courts and the state of WA and was awarded emancipation and a baby daughter, me. My dad had taken off early on In the pregnancy, so It was my mom and me. She still says that all she ever wanted mom met the man I grew up believing was my biological father. When I was 3, my mom had my little sister. This was when my first experience of culture, race or becoming aware that people arent the same. I am medium skin tone, where my dad is dark skinned, native American. So of course my baby sister came into the world with tons of black hair and dark as could be. When my mom brought my sister home from the hospital, I started crying, saying, Take her back! I dont want a black one! In my eyes, at the age of 4, I still remember how confused I was about the differences between my sister and l. I did not find out that he wasnt my biological father until I was 12 years old. And that was the first of many heartaches to come. Well, after I found out I really had lost my identity. Who was my dad? What did he look like? All the normal questions filled my head for about 3 years. I m et my dad right around my 1 5th birthday. Its a very long story, but for the most part, it went well. A few weeks after meeting him, I went on a camping trip with my dad and half brother that is only a year younger than me. This is when I finally was introduced to my culture. My dad is 100% Algonquin Native American. His great-grandfather was the chief of the Algonquin tribe in Ottawa, Canada. I learned as much as I possibly could that weekend about my dads heritage. I was and still am very proud to be native American. The part that bums me out though, all through grade school and middle school, there was a program for native American kids. They got to do so many awesome things. They had special field trips, lunches, group meets and got to learn about their culture in a separate class. I envied them so much. Plus, my little sister is Black Foot Native, even though she wasnt in the programs, I knew she was Native. Anyways, my dad and I talk a couple times a year. He lives in Tacoma, but is a heavy alcoholic. I have looked up tons of history, facts and any information possible on the Algonquin tribe. Someday, I plan on visiting the reservation in Ottawa, Canada. Then I can walk around and see exactly what my culture is all about. Which of the cultural syndromes in the article Culture Conflict from Week 2 of the course readings apply to you? Have these changed over your life? Again, this is a hard question, I do not know the answer. I can say that l, myself elate to the diffuse-specific syndrome. (e. G. , Just because I do not like your report says nothing about liking you; Foe Schemers, 1967. ) Finish by naming and discussing the significant cultural symbols in your life and what they represent. I am in love with wolves and treacheries. To me, from my understanding of my culture, wolves are spiritual animals. And treacheries are very important to the purpose. It is fascinating. Inclusion of quotes and/or references from course readings (specifically cultural syndromes from Week 2) are required to earn full credit on this assignment.

Eyes to The Sky †Scholarship Essay

Eyes to The Sky – Scholarship Essay Free Online Research Papers Ever since I was a young boy I had my eyes to the sky. This feeling started developing in me from such a young age, because in our house there was a model of an airplane that I always played with and comparing it to the real object I always see fly. From that level as a small boy my curiosity was on the way the plane was made to fly many thousands of feet up in the sky, that is what lead me to pursue my interest in aviation. Then my first flight on a 727 was such a exciting time for me as a 6 years old.the captain invited me in the flight deck an I was in awe,and told the captain I want to be in yr shoes one day that’s my dream.then the next Christmas I got a u flight it toy and for the 70’s wasn’t a bad simulator let u sit with a card broad cock pit and take this plane off and land it.now as a adult I still look to the sky and have that passion in my eyes for flying. I was a student who loved sports and aviation during my high school level and in 1981 I had honors in football and track after a hard work of practice and when my period as high school student was over I graduated with in the top of the class with a percentage of 10% and later on I joined the air force national guard in the year 1983 and served as a aerospace firefighter just to be close to those fighter jets. Back then there wasn’t flight schools as you have now for high school graduates to go to straight from high school, you had to have a degree and get in the air force to learn to fly. I attended Stphen F. Austin State University for two semesters, didn’t do for good, cause I didn’t take it very serious at the time. I currently work for a fbo in a position that has low pay but had to continue because I wanted to be next to the airplanes. My aviation goals are to be a professional pilot for mesa airlines and my longterm goal is to be a captain for a major airlines flying 737 and 757 if possible. My short term educational goal is a associate degree in applied sciences in aviation technology and my long term goal would to get a bachelors in the same course.. I am a person who has been interested in aviationfor many years since playing is part of my hobby and I joined virtual airlines and have used flight simulator by microsoft for many years and logging in over 4000 hours.other hobbies I enjoy. included outdoor games like fishing and boating. Another hobbies which is very important to me is reading and writing poetry, this I do at my free time to express my emotions on paper. I am also involved in helping the needy and attending church where I regularly volunteer to help needy children. At the church also is where I am a big brother and work as a mentor. My interests in aviation lead me to visit San Juan College so as to inquire on their provision of associate degree program and the cost of their education. I found out that I was in great need of up to 35000 since the program costs 97000 and due to the nature of my job which is low thus I cannot be in a position to pay for my education. During this time of inquiry I was booked for an interview on 15th of 2008 where I qualified and has been accepted in the school and in its flight programs. For this reason I would like to request if I can be given a scholarship so as to pursue my career which for a long time I have dreamt of. This is being an instructor in the line of aviation because teaching has also been my concern in life interest due to the fact that I have always wanted to teach and give a best short to help learners. My teaching on aviation has been for places in higher institutions like university setting. I developed this interest because I was inspired by one lecturer who devoted his life to aviation and during his teachings people could understand every detail of his instructions. If you give me this opportunity to study I will also help others who may have a particular interest in an activity that will help them in life and in the process help others. All in all I am capable of working hard to reach the highest peak of studies in my life this include the highest level that would be provide for in Aviation Colleges. Could have the American Civil War been avoided Essay

Could have the American Civil War been avoided - Essay Example Slavery was something thought to be short lived, as the North and West grew exponentially with its specialized industries and the South continued to supply the cash crops of cotton, sugar, tobacco, etc. handled and processed by slaves the Northerners could not afford, and did not believe in keeping. As time wore on and the cotton gin was invented, slavery became even more deeply a part of Southern culture; it was protected under the Constitution (because slaves were personal property), and was impossible to amend. But slavery itself was a red herring. The main complaint of the South was that the North was gaining more power in the federal government and the South no longer had a voice. The North abolished slavery on moral grounds (apparently), but Andrew Jackson, when a Mississippi senator, stated blatantly that â€Å"It is not humanity that influences you†¦ it is that you may have a majority in the Congress of the United States and convert the Government into an engine of Nort hern aggrandizement†¦ you want by an unjust system of legislation to promote the industry of the United States at the expense of the people of the South.† (Epperson, Jim, 1996). Considering the complexities around the issue of slavery (mostly economic) and the desperation of the South to hold onto their slaves along with the general concern from the North of what to do with all the slaves if they were to be freed, it doesn’t seem possible that any mind sets could be changed to prevent the war even if the issue of slavery didn’t exist.

Should abortion right be restricted Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Should abortion right be restricted - Essay Example Nobody can deny abortions in some cases while in other cases it is totally unnecessary to go for it. This topic involves concerns of biology, mortality and legal rights. Critiques of abortion argues that human life begins with conception and the abortion is nothing but a of killing a human being. So they consider abortion as an immoral and illegal issue. They keep a liberal attitude towards abortion in the case of rape, incest or when the mother’s health at risk. Proponents of abortion believe that a woman’s right to make decisions concerning her body and her future outweigh the rights of the fetus. One of the most controversial restrictions on abortion requires minors to notify or obtain the consent of at least one parent before having an abortion. All the living things in the world are one way or other give birth to their offspring. God has given the responsibility to all the living things, to live and sustain their species. So pregnancy is a natural process. A women’s life will be meaningful only when she conceives and give birth to a child. Her biological and psychological aspects demand the motherhood. It has been proved from some studies that breast feeding makes a mother happier and also that will reduce the risk of breast cancer. Religious organizations are the main critiques of abortion. As per their theory human being doesn’t have the right to kill the fetus. Children are the blessings given by the God. Conception is a blessing given by the God, we should not destroy it. God has definite plan towards all things and we should not question it. A person’s right to enjoy the facilities of the world should not be negated by deliberate human activities. We are living in this world since our mother did not go for the abortion and the same right should be given to the fetus. The ethical debate over abortion usually surrounds the issues of whether a fetus has rights, in particular a right to

Case study Human Social Behavior

Case study Human Social Behavior Introduction- This article is about the human behavior and the various factors which affects the human behavior. One of the factors that have a great impact on the behavior of human is the social environment and here all types of sociological effects are discussed. Various individual environmental factors and their impact on behavior are also discussed here. Inheritances also affects the human behavior and in this article two types of inheritances are discussed and that are cultural and the genetic inheritances. Nature and nurture both has impacts on the development of humans and nurture has some of the effects on behavior of humans. In the end of the article there is a detail discussion about the evolutionary thinking and the factors like psychological and the biological which changes the human behavior Body 1-7 Behavior of the human being decides the overall personality and this behavior of human are influenced by many factors like cultural, economic, and sociological. Human behavior is influenced by the most discussed effect that is the sociological effect. The most complex society of any creature on earth is of humans and it means self-preservation beyond the level of persona; physical survival is extended by us. Humans live in a very typical society in which there is bonding between the groups for the purpose of mutual and protection. Families, friendships, associations etc are included in these groups. Due to the formation of society and humans social links increases the bond between different people which is a human behavior. One of the bad behavior that every human being have is of greed and this behavior of human finishes them completely but due to society and links with different families and groups decreases the human greed of money or anything else. Due to increase of population a nd the urbanization, the people have started neglecting the social relationship and everyone is giving importance to the money rather than social relationship and behavior. Because of this, the rate of crime and deviant behavior of humans are found in cities. All these sociological effects have impacts on the behavior of the human beings and the social environment plays an important role in the development of the child which includes the attainment of full genetic and human potential. (Conklin, 2004) The biological and the psychological changes occurring in the human beings are basically during time period from birth and the end of adolescence. Genetic factors are the factors which are related to the genes of the child and also refer to the changes that occur at every point in growth. Social environment plays a very important role in the development of child and a new born baby do not experience any fear to contact with any specific people but after the time period of 8-12 months there is a change in them and they start to prefer the people who are familiar and also start showing the feelings like anxiety and distress when they are separated from their family members. Social environment helps the child to understand the social rules in the period of preschool and adulthood. The time period of middle childhood have the characteristics of friendship with age mates and also the beginning of romantic love. Another social effect on the child development is of bonding between the diffe rent groups of people and the idea of maintaining social relations develops in the child which helps him/her lifelong. There are various processes which are controlled genetically and they are known as maturation. Maturation is related to the mental and the physical development of the child and a child is said to be matured when he/she becomes capable of taking their own decisions and are well aware of the things which are good or bad for them. According to the some doctors and live examples it is seen that usually maturity comes at the age of 18 and the main thing to consider here is that is maturity comes from the social environment. All the social factors like relationship in society, working in society etc, helps in the attainment of complete genetic and the potential of human. But along with social environment there are factors which are known as individual environmental that affect the social behavior of human. There are various individual environmental factors that affect the human social behavior but the two most important environmental factors are physical environment and family environment factors. Physical environment: For child the physical environment includes the school environment and this environment includes the size of school and the size of classroom. The children who are more popular and rich normally enjoy high status and the popular children have the well developed role-taking skills. There are some people who are anxious and low in self esteem withdraw their contacts and which results in the bad impact on social relations. For example the children in school or college who are very aggressive prefer the normal children as their friend. (Steen, 2001) Family environment: The most important environmental factor and the socializing institution is family. With the birth of the child the parents starts taking care of his physical circumstance well being and not only the well being but also bring them up, educate them and this prepares them to contribute to the society. Parents have also influence on the aggression of their child and control on the aggression by parents helps the society to grow very much. So these two individual environmental factors affect the human social behavior. Inheritances also play important role like the cultural inheritance have more effects in comparison to the genetic inheritance and such cultural transmittance affects the development and behavior of human beings. There are two types of inheritances and they are cultural inheritance and the other one is genetic inheritance. The storage and communication of information, imitation and teaching refers to the cultural inheritance. The cultural inheritance is transmitted by brains where as the inheritance based on the genetic is known as genetic inheritance and these are not transmitted by brains and by genes. The genes involved in the cultural inheritance prepare the structure of brain where as in genetic inheritance all the things depends on genes. The latest stage which involves in the evolution of heredity is considered as cultural inheritance. There is a complete mechanism for the genetic inheritance and this mechanism give rise to the cultural inheritance. So cultural inheritance is better more important than the genetic because genetic behavior is permanent and there is no work of brain in this but in cultural every work is solved by brains which are transmitted by brain and this is not perm anent. The cultural transmittance affects the development as it helps in setting the mind and it gives the comparison between the good and worse. The behavior of human being like greed is also removed by cultural transmittance because this type of behavior of any person is not accepted by the culture and which results in the perfect growth and development of the human beings. But the most important factor which influences the growth and development of individual is the family environment. Discussions about the nurture and nature are also necessary for the human behavior. (Lerner, 2002) Both nature and nurture have great effects on the development of humans but here are some of the effects of nurture. Affect of nurture on the development of the individual means the factors which are environmental present around the individual which includes growing of the person and development on many levels. There are many factors included in the nurture and they are effect of family, schools, culture, media, society etc. Nurture has great effects on the development of a child and mostly on the students. The most important factor that affects greatly is the family atmosphere and the influence of family can make an individual perfect but the bad family atmosphere can ruin the life of the individual also. Most of the influences of the families are on career development of an individual which is more than the influence of school, work etc. For the college students like us who are given the great responsibility of decision making at the time of growing up and must be able to choose ea sily and get the job very easily. Members of the family help in making the atmosphere healthy by making it helpful and socially fit. It is because of family that that helps individuals to make social relations and helps in increasing their feelings towards everyone. As the technological resources are more with families as compared to students, family is considered for the support of the individual in career. (McCall, 2009) According to my survey majority is in favor of the change seen in the behavior while personally experiencing the world outside. It is the view of the most of the persons who interacted with the other people that this experience changed their attitude. Mostly the human behavior is affected by the nature of the human and a drastic change is seen in the ancient and the modern human behavior. The most important thing to know about human is nature and its influences on growth and functioning. Nature of an individual is the only thing which can give the idea that what kind of person heshe is. For example, if a person has honest and friendly nature then heshe will get every possible help during their bad time from their friends and family members. On the other hand if the person has a greedy or selfish nature then no one will like to help him and no one will like him as a friend. Person with good nature behaves in different manner and person with bad nature behaves in other manner. (Wormer, 2010) There are large number of differences between the ancient and the modern behaviors of humans. The modern human behavior is found in the type of language, religion, art, music, cooking etc. Due to the advancement in every field whether it is cultural, economic, political etc, the human behavior has also changed a lot. The people in the ancient times had so much social relations and they worked together in such a way that they had no selfishness and no greed of money. People in ancient times didnt even think of harming the others but the modern people dont even think about others and just think about themselves and how to make more and more money. According to the recent survey it was found that the modern people have 50% less social relations than ancient people. Modern people are harsh towards each other and they dont even think before giving harm to anyone. From all these points we can conclude that the behavior of modern people has changed a lot in comparison to ancient people. Alo ng with the nature evolutionary thinking also affects the behavior of humans and some other factors like socio-biological factors and psychological factors also contributes to it. Evolutionary thinking is the thinking which is based on the change in the inherited traits of the population of human beings through the successive generations and this change is the result of interaction between the processes that brings variations in the population. One of the greatest strength of this type of thinking is that it always helps in answering why question style in a fashion which can be scientific and non-metaphysical. Evolutionary thinking has great effects on the behavior of humans and it makes the person to take the decisions with great knowledge and matures that individual. Reflection of evolutionary thinking about health is the concept of natural healing. In this the psychological are also discussed and these factors are those factors that develops as the defense mechanisms and these factors are created when there are changes in the family environment of an individual and that includes restrictive, abusive and creating feelings of fear in the individuals. These fa ctors have a great impact on the behavior of human like the individual who faces all these problems become lonely and makes their behavior of cheating anyone etc. Socio-biological factors are the factors that mean the biological behavior for all social behavior. These factors are the biological or generic factors and they are operative in mate selection. This factor changes the behavior of human and makes their behavior common and mature. These are the relation between the evolutionary thinking and its effect on human behavior. (Hume, 2010) Result of Questionnaire- 1= Strongly Agree, 2= Agree, 3= Neutral, 4= Disagree, 5= Strongly Disagree. Questionnaire Results: 1 2 3 4 5 1. There is a change seen in your behavior while personally experiencing the world outside. 6 11 5 3 2. You gain skills or abilities while interacting with other people on your way. 10 11 1 3 3. Has this experience changed or affected your attitude. 10 10 4 1 4. There is improvement in your ambitions and knowledge. 11 9 3 1 1 5. There is any goal set to achieve your target. 8 12 3 2 10. There is some learning attitude developed in you to understand the things better through your past experiences. 8 13 4 Conclusion- So as to conclude with the whole article we have created many of the bodies in order to throw light on the issue of the human social behavior which has influenced many of the social issues which are discussed. There is much importance of the social environment which is created in the development of the child which includes the achievement of the genetic and human potential. The Human behavior is changing with the increasing factors in the world where environmental factors of an individual also affect the behavior of a human being. There are discussions carried out to make the full description of the human social behavior and challenges which are faced by the company due to various kinds of human social behavior. We have defined the Human social behavior as the population which behaves influenced by the emotions, cultures, ethics, rapport and hypnosis which falls within a range of some behavior and some outside acceptable limits. There are various human natures provided which has adverse effect on the human behavior and many of the theories are mentioned in order to prove and justify the human behavior as changed. There is change in thinking which has been found in many of the humans that has greatly affected the human social behavior and attitude towards the other people and the other factors such as socio-biological; psychological factors also come into affect at the same time.

Drug Use Among Teenagers :: essays research papers

Drug Use Among Teenagers While I was conducting my research, I located the actual survey results and decided to include them with this essay. (I included them at the end of my essay). ~~~ The three main drugs that are used among teenagers are Marijuana, LSD, and a variety of inhalants. The use of these drugs seem to be of an astronomical amount according to the survey conducted by the University of Michigan. Marijuana is a green, brown, or gray mixture of dried, shredded flowers and leaves of the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa). You may hear marijuana called by street names such as pot, herb, weed, boom, Mary Jane, gangster, or chronic. There are more than 200 slang terms for marijuana. Sinsemilla (sin-seh-me-yah; it's a Spanish word), hashish ("hash" for short), and hash oil are stronger forms of marijuana. All forms of marijuana are mind-altering. This means they change how the brain works. They all contain THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the main active chemical in marijuana. But there are also 400 other chemicals in the marijuana plant. LSD LSD is very potent: the effective dose is measured in micrograms (ug) -- however, the lethal dose is literally thousands of times that, making the drug essentially non-toxic. LSD can be administered a number of ways, the most common: orally through paper, sugar cubes, on a piece of gelatin, or by pill; intravenously; or intramuscularly. A standard dose with noticeable hallucinogenic effects is about 100-200 ug. The intensity of the trip is proportional to the size of the dose -- it is interesting to note, though, that the duration of the trip seems to stay the same at higher doses (Freedman, 1984). The initial effects begin 20-40 minutes with a sense of euphoria and dizziness. Hallucinations then begin to occur, with the trip peaking for 4-5 hours after about an hour since the drug is taken. Inhalants People use certain inhalants to obtain a "high." These inhalants could be anything from glue to certain fumes. Inhalation of dangerous and toxic substance is extremely dangerous and can cause serious health problems or death. The Reasons for Drug Use To Climb Among Teenagers Stupidity is one reason! There are many reasons why drug use continues to climb. The laws are not strict enough for teenage offenders. When a teenager, or any other person, is caught possessing Marijuana they receive a "slap on the wrist." They receive a fine or some sort of community service punishment and that is it. Another reason would be the idea that, "everyone else does it and nothing bad happens to them, I might as well do it too!" Teenagers see other people using

A Day at the Spa

The pressing question in this case is can automated external defibrillators save lives.   The answer is yes.   The secondary question is how many.   With no other considerations the addition of defibrillators to a gym’s first aid protocols will help save additional lives. But in order to adequately determine how many more lives defibrillators can save, one must examine factors such as the overall health condition of the recipient, personnel knowledge, and response time.Based on the details of this case, an on-sight defibrillators at Silver’s Gym may save the majority of those expected 100 incidents.   Of the 30 that would die before paramedics arrive, 24 will live with the use of the defibrillator.   Of the remaining 70 that would otherwise live, improper use of the defibrillator may cause 2.1 deaths, saving 67.9 lives.   The total expected number of lives saved with the on-sight defibrillator   is 91.9.The estimates cannot be accurate, however, when consid ering the health issues that are evident in this case.   Beginning with Tommy, high cholesterol and high blood pressure changes the probability that a defibrillator would be effective.   Also, as people exercise in the gym their heart rates and blood pressures increases making them prone to a sudden cardiac arrest. If the increased rates from exercise are compounded by poor health conditions, like Tommy’s that changes the estimates to a much lower figure as well.   The use of CPS and EMT response time also change those figures.  Ã‚   Finally, the actual condition that makes the person need medical assistance – heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest, or other condition – changes the figures.Untrained personnel cannot properly assess   what aid to administer.   Obviously CPR is appropriate in some cases, the AED in others, and in some cases both CPR and use of the AED will be indicated.   Untrained personnel may not know how to check for devices such as a pacemaker which affects the use of the defibrillator.Pacemakers could compound the improper use factor.   There is a chance of improper use on a person who has no pacemaker.   There may be a higher chance of improper use when a pacemaker is present. In Tommy’s case, since he was not breathing, CPR was a proper response to help restore his breathing.   Without proper oxygen to the brain and heart the defibrillator may not have worked.   Silver’s Gym was not negligent in Tommy’s death.   Gym personnel administered CPR upon finding that he was not breathing.A proper and expected response.   Had there been no personnel with CPR training, that would be a case for negligence.   Without knowing how quickly the call was made, a 12 minute response from EMTs was reasonable, so there was no negligence on the part of gym personnel calling, nor on the part of EMTs for poor response time.   Also, it appears that the gym personnel immediately responded to Tomm y’s situation.   Had there been no one in the lobby where Tommy was sitting, or had they not responded in a timely manner, there would be a case for negligence. The case states that â€Å"CPR alone is not effective in treating SCA.†Ã‚   From that statement it is safe to assume that CPR is effective in treating SCA if accompanied by the correct use of a defibrillator.   However, in this case CPR and AED combined may not have been effective in countering the effects of high blood pressure and high cholesterol in a person who is overweight and does not exercise.CPR and AED treat symptoms, not underlying causes.   Tommy had too many health risk factors – age, weight, sedentary lifestyle, and two severe health conditions – to justify a case of negligence against Silver’s Gym.Defibrillators can and do help save lives.   When gyms and sports facilities have defibrillator equipment on-sight, proper use of the equipment can prevent some unexpected de aths.   It is important that there be trained personnel on sight who know how to administer first aid and life saving procedures such as CPR.It is also important that they be trained in proper defibrillator use.  Ã‚   Individuals also have a contributing factor in how well life saving procedures work for them.   When people take more responsibility and become more active in ensuring their personal health, they increase the likelihood that CPR, defibrillators, and EMT protocols will save their lives in extreme emergencies.Negligence occurs when gyms and athletic facilities do not have personnel properly trainedCPR and first aid.   Or when there are not enough personnel on hand to monitor and respond to medical emergencies in those facilities.   However, one cannot expect anyone, even well trained and highly skilled doctors to prevent death when several risk factors exist in one person.

Tim Hirschi’s Social Control Theory in Crime and...

Tim Hirschi’s Social Control Theory in Crime and Punishment in Suburbia Over the past few decades criminologists and sociologists have developed several theories in an effort to try and explain what causes some human beings to commit crimes. One of the most well-known theories that tries to explain why criminals commit crimes is called the social control or social bond theory developed by a theorist named Travis Hirschi. Hirschi also wanted to figure out why people don’t commit crimes instead of just figuring out why they do and he tried his best to answer those questions using his social control theory. The social control theory developed by Mr. Hirschi states that a person who has bonds with family, friends, the community, or†¦show more content†¦She had no one to confide in about the sexual abuse so she felt she had to take matters into her own hands and deal with her stepfather on her own. The attachment part of the control theory seems to be valid because if Rosanna had an attachment bond with her mother or a close friend she would have most likely shared her feelings about the sexual assault with them which may have prevented her from murdering her stepfather. The second type of bond that Hirschi believes is necessary for an individual to have in their life is commitment. Hirschi believes that in order for a person not to get involved in criminal activity they must have commitment to long term goals such as getting an education and career. (Hirschi, 1969, p. 34) Hirschi stated â€Å"The higher the student’s educational aspirations†¦the less likely he is to commit delinquent acts.† (Hirschi, 1969, p. 171) According to several studies that were completed in 1967, students who stated that they wanted to go to college in the future are said to have high commitment and those who stated they did not want to go college are said to have low commitment. (Wiatrowski, 1978, p. 73) Hirschi feels that commitment is necessary to keep people from committing criminal acts because if a person is striving to wards a goal they feel that they have a purpose in life and are going to accomplish great things in their lifetime.
